I studied printmaking at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota participating in a program rigorously focused on copper plate intaglio etching. After graduating, I did some printmaking work in New York City, Berlin and held a small print exhibition in the West Fjords of Iceland. Copper still features strongly in my sculptural work, however my printmaking process has become more focused on collagraph. Collagraph allows for the inclusion of disparate textures of personal historical significance (basically one inks and prints from a collage) similar to the intaglio technique of soft ground etching. I print off of beer cans, underwear, circuit boards, christmas garlands, wiring, and other despair, dysphoria, trauma infused detritus.
